HEATHSIDE CABIN
Nestled within the tree tops and looking out across the misty green haze of coastal heath, Heathside Cabin serves as a multifunctional living area. A space for living, friends and family to gather, breakout, rest, contemplate or create music. This addition looks to complement and become a second living space for the main existing house.
Design language from the existing house has been echoed in the new forms, unifying the new living space with the old whilst introducing a contemporary design ‘filter’ of its own. When entering the existing house, the sense of reveal is inspiring, moving from the darker, narrower entry space out into the main living room with large glass windows which is a lovely encounter. This experience was the starting point within the new space. The new cabin sees a layered entry with darker screen style entry to the southern wall and then upon turning into the living space you are faced with a framed view down the length of the living space. A large north facing window, and timber lined seat forms a vantage point for taking in an uninterrupted natural view. This window is in reference to the existing home with large, awe inspiring northern glass façade that works so well.
The Heathside Cabin is a simple, warm, uncomplicated space showcasing the natural environment that aims to support day to day living in the many forms that may take.
